Holi- A Unit On Colors

Finally, this mama and teacher bear has come out of her hibernation and of course the reason is the beautiful spring time! 

With spring, comes the festival of colors for north Indians though now the festival has gained popularity across the globe. Read THIS POST to know more about the festival.

Colors are symbolic to this festival, so I thought of creating a unit to teach little children about different colors using the theme of Holi.

It has a range of hands on activities that children will enjoy doing.

Sorting activity with balloons.

Roll the dice and graph different colors.

Clip Cards to practice those fine motor skills.

Diwali Gift Idea!

If you are looking for a simple and cute Diwali gift idea, look no further. All you need is a diya or a tea light and some transparent coloured paper. Involve your children by letting them colour the elephant.
I would suggest printing the elephant template on card stock as the diya has to be placed on the elephant.
 Stick the diya with double sided tape after the elephant has been colored and you are ready to wish your loved ones Happy Diwali!

Mother's Day Gift Idea!

Mother's Day is around the corner and I have come up with a sweet gift that is absolutely low prep. 

Just print out the cards and use any heart shaped candy/cookie to place on the heart shape. If children want, they can even color in the heart to make it more personalized.

 I wrapped up the cookie in a plastic wrap and secured it with a scotch tape.

Republic Day- Soldier Emergent Reader

Republic day is also a day to remember our brave soldiers who laid their lives for our country. I love using this day to talk about our veterans with little children. I created a very simple book which you can use to initiate a discussion in your class.

You can follow up with a soldier craft. Give them cutouts to assemble and let them sponge paint with green and brown paint.

Brainstorm the characteristics of a soldier with children and record their answers. 

All these activities will definitely make your kids proud of our soldiers and help them understand the sacrifice the soldiers make to keep us and our country safe.

Republic Day Craft

The Indian republic day falls on the 26th of January and it is a special day for all Indians. The Rashtrapati Bhavan and India gate comes alive on this day. As a kid I used to love watching the parade. It used to be a delight watching the armed forces marching in all their finery and the innumerable cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage  of our country. I used to eagerly await the stunts performed by the jets in the sky. 

And it is that memory which made me come up with a craft you can do with the kids for republic day.

 

You need two ice cream sticks, blue paper, cotton and some paint.

Let the kids stick the ice cream sticks on paper and add cotton for clouds. Allow them to use the tri color paint to show the aerobatics of the Indian Air Force.

I know I got late in putting up this post but I was so preoccupied with finishing work on my 3rd book, that my little blog got ignored. And it really is a coincident that last year too I did the same thing and wrote a post only on the 12th. So to make up for it, I am sharing a fun writing activity you can do with your kiddos for the new year. 

You can also turn the activity into a craft. 

Just print the template, ask the kids to cut it and color it. Give them a ribbon or a pipe cleaner for the string of the balloon.

Back to School Craft

If you are looking for a back to school craft that introduces children to the things in the classroom, then this craft would serve the purpose.

It is a simple backpack craft where children sort and paste things they use in the classroom.

Go over the rules on how to handle the stationery in the class and let children assemble the craft.

Mothers Day Activities

Mother's Day is round the corner and it is a great day to show your mom how much you love her. Not that one should wait only for mother's day to shower one's mom with love. But since mother's day is celebrated world over, this day can definitely be used as an excuse to make it extra special for our mothers.

Little kiddos in your class might need some help to express their love to their mom's.

So what can one do? Lots of fun stuff... I came up with few writing activities which you can use with the kids.

Do a little discussion on what all mom's do.

Then give each child to draw and write on an individual sheet.

Sing this fun song with little kids and ask them what they love about their mom.

You can attach the poem at the back of this page.

You could also ask children to draw their mother's portrait and write why their mom is special.

Let children make a bouquet of flowers to take home for their mother's.
